Pre-orders for The Last of Us Part 2 are rivalling those of the record holder, Marvel’s Spider-Man, showing that the game may well surpass Insomniac Games’ super successful title (via GameSpot).

The Last of Us Part 2 has been besieged with delays, leaks, and reports of poor working conditions at Naughty Dog. However, the news doesn’t seem to have impacted the anticipation for the new survival-action title, which is showing impressive numbers for pre-orders in Europe alone. Right now, The Last of Us Part 2 pre-order statistics are ahead of Marvel’s Spider-Man when comparing the equivalent point in the games’ runup to their launch in that territory.

“We hope this’ll be a defining game for this generation,” said Jim Ryan—CEO and president of Sony Interactive Entertainment—in an interview with CNET. The Last of Us Part 2 will also work on the PlayStation 5 (no surprises there), and I expect it will be even prettier on the next generation doodad than it is on the PlayStation 4. Josh is reviewing the game for us here at VideoGamer, so keep an eye out for his thoughts soon.

The Last of Us Part 2 will launch for PlayStation 4 on July 19.
