The Forest has officially sprouted legs and lumbered out of Early Access and into version 1.0, developer Endnight Games has announced.

Now that the survival title has seen a full release, it means there's plenty more content to tuck into for gamers. Perhaps the most interesting development is that Endnight is planning on bringing virtual reality functionality to The Forest, which will be available on May 22, and lets you use motion controls to cut down trees.

Other highlights include a craftable warmsuit, a revamped endgame experience, plus a new alternate ending. In addition, Endnight has confirmed that it has done 'a ton of cave re-work' and made some other general improvements to the game.

As always there's few teething issues being reported, although Endnight is busy stomping down on as many bugs as possible. You can read the full list of patch notes here.

The Forest was originally launched into Early Access around four years ago, and sees players attempting to survive on a mysterious island inhabited by zombie-like beings (aren't they always?). Endnight is also bringing the game to PlayStation 4, though we don't know exactly when that will be.
