New The First Descendant update changes free rewards and players are furious

The First Descendant Season 2 Episode 2 is less than a month away, and it will bring the arrival of Serena plus photo mode and a lot more. Nexon are continuing to support TFD with weekly updates, and we know February 27^th will introduce agent skins to the game. However, right now Nexon has just released patch 1.2.8, and The First Descendant players are not happy with Nexon changing some free rewards.  

The First Descendant update 1.2.8 changes free rewards

In update 1.2.7, Nexon introduced over a dozen free rewards for The First Descendant players to get between February 13^th and March 12^th. While the rewards mostly stay the same, the newly released update 1.2.8 patch notes state:

• Event Operation: Changed the Rewards for completing Kate’s Experiment Assistant Daily Operation 30 times.

The old reward for completing Kate’s Experiment Assistant Daily Operation 30 times was the spawn, Flutter, but now the rewards are as follows:

• Social Motion ‘Comic Dance’
• 10 Paints
  • 2 Enamel deep black
  • 2 Real matte black
  • 2 Clear white
  • 2  Alternative white
  • 2 Shiny metal silver

The expiration date to get the above rewards remains February 26^th.

While there are now more rewards for completing Kate’s Experiment Assistant Daily Operation 30 times, a lot of players are upset about the spawn changing for an emote. This is because some players were yet to complete the operation and thus missed out on getting the spawn.

Reacting to the change on Reddit, a very frustrated reply says, “Are you f****** serious. That spawn reward is the only reason I been logging in and doing dailys”. Another reply says, “That’s just dumb. This is twice now that they switched the reward,” while another says, “WTF? I was logging in and grinding just for the spawn. Slimy move Nexon”.

Unfortunately, it also sounds like the Flutter spawn will be removed from players who already claimed it. On Discord, Nexon’s notice says, “we have identified that if you completed Continuous Operation II before applying the update, you may have received the ‘Flutter’ spawn item via in-game mail instead of the updated reward. For affected Descendants, the incorrect item will be retrieved, and the updated reward will be reissued accordingly”.

This is disappointing to hear. The reward changing is bad enough, but the Flutter being retrieved from players who already grinded with the goal of getting the spawn is even worse. Hopefully this is something that Nexon does not repeat in the future.
