The Obstructer is a menacing poison boss in The First Descendant that can freeze allies and cause a team wipe if you’re not careful. As a Hard mode boss, they’re a step above foes like the Hanged Man and Devourer. While you can beat the level 122 boss with strangers, having a Bunny on your team can make this incredibly easy. Here’s how YouTuber Pupsker beat the boss without too much trouble.
How to beat Obstructer
Like most bosses, the first shield bar won’t pose much of a threat if you’ve got the best DPS-focused gear targeting their weak spots. These include the sensor on its head, the core on its chest, and the balancers on its knees. Remember to use electric attacks and defensive modules against poison damage. In addition to a poison laser and some missiles, the boss can temporarily freeze allies in a purple cube that needs to be destroyed to free them.
The second frenzied phase is when things get interesting. Two portals open up at the 9-minute mark and start sending orbs towards the Obstructer. If enough of them reach the boss, an instant stage-wide attack is triggered that ends the mission. The boss fight quickly switches into a target practice session unless you’ve got the right Descendant to even the odds.
Here’s where Bunny comes in as a lifesaver. Their Electric Emission skill is an AoE attack that constantly damages foes around them. Get a Bunny player to hop near the portal and they’ll be able to clear most of the arriving orbs by using this skill. Using a Mid-Air Maneuvering module makes this trick even more effective as you can now grapple without latching onto a surface. The others should target the Plasma Amplifier that appears at the back of the frenzied boss. Deal enough damage and you’ll send the boss back to its normal phase. Try finishing this fight fast as the next frenzy states open up more portals at a time.
Feedback surrounding this boss fight has been mixed. Players like LordPizzaSteve are concerned that teammates often don’t know the boss’ mechanics. Others like TrueFlyer28 already recommend swapping to Bunny and assisting your allies. It’s a fresh change of pace as while DPS still matters, your attention is split between clearing orbs and targeting the boss’ weak spot in its second phase. Borrow Pupsker’s method and you should be able to clear this fight before the timer ends.
