The Finals is only a couple of weeks away from the beginning of Season 3. There is a lot of potential for Embark’s third chapter, and the community should be excited by what the developer has up their sleeve. However, while there’s no denying the quality of content in the game, some The Finals fans are imploring Embark to add a graphics toggle because the blurriness of visuals right now is causing certain players to suffer from migraines.

You can check out the patch note for update 2.10.0. This is the most recent update from Embark, and it added a significant improvement to melee weapons not mentioned in the patch notes. In addition, the update also released in conjunction with the start of the last Season 2 community event for which only 33% has been completed as of writing.

Season 3 will hopefully bring returning and new players to The Finals, and existing players would like to see Embark add an option to disable Temporal Anti Aliasing. This is because it’s impossible to disable right now and is causing players to walk away with headaches.

The Finals want toggle to turn off TAA

Reddit user xGenjiMainx has created a very detailed and thorough post discussing the “one massive issue that nobody mentions” about The Finals. Per the OP, Temporal Anti Aliasing is the default anti-aliasing method for The Finals because it’s the default for Unreal Engine 5. However, it’s acknowledged as “one of the worst anti-aliasing methods,” and is likely to blame for the game looking so blurry and causing migraines.

The OP explains that “TAA works by sampling previous frames and averaging them to provide the next pixel,” which means “if you are in an intense gun fight and your enemy is moving fast or jumping all over the screen, they’re going to be very blurry because where they were a fraction of a second ago is still taken into account for the final image on your screen”.

It’s acknowledged that “TAA cannot be toggled off in The Finals”. While it is the default for Unreal Engine 5, the graphics engine deployed by Embark, the OP points out that Fortnite also uses UE5 and has TSR which is a lot better than TAA.

Aside from purely aesthetics, the OP says “This blur has genuinely caused me migraines and I can’t play the game because of it. It doesn’t even do its job well as anti aliasing even if you wanted blur, its still very jaggy but with like way less quality”. You can check out the Reddit thread below to see accompanying screenshots and clips as proof of the OP’s argument.

In the comments, many fans agree with the OP’s thread. One of the top comments says, “As a blur sensitive eyes person, this hurts for me to play…,” meanwhile, another comment says “I had no clue this was a thing. Been wondering why I’ve had so many headaches recently”.

One comment says “I like it more blurry than sharper, that’s what anti aliasing is for, but I think they should let you turn it off”. And that’s ultimately the crux of the argument. The use of TAA is understandable, but there should be the option to toggle it off in the eyes of the OP as well as others in the comments.
