Square Enix has taken the lid off The DioField Chronicle, a new strategy-RPG coming to consoles and PC later this year.

Taking place on DioField Island, the game centres around the Kingdom of Alletain. They’ve known peace for 200 years under the watchful eye of the Shaytham dynasty, until a war between the Empire and the Alliance reaches their shores. You’ll play as a band of mercenaries known as ‘Blue Fox’ and decide their fates. The game’s blurb promises a “unique and beautiful world that blends fantasy, medieval and modern day influences.”

Combat will utilise a new strategic battle system that the team are calling the ‘Real-Time Tactical Battle’ (RTTB) system. You’ll use diorama-style scenes to issue orders, assess front-line conditions and survey the battlefield. Then, you’ll use a variety of skills, classes and equipment to lead your forces to victory.

Square Enix has already put some pedigree on the game’s development team too. This includes concept art by Final Fantasy XII art director Isamu Kamikokuryo. Meanwhile, the game’s music comes from Game of Thrones composers Ramin Djawadi & Brandon Campbell.

You can check out the game’s announcement trailer down below. The DioField Chronicle is currently pencilled in for launch on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC later in 2022.
