The book Masters of Doom, which detailed the creation of the classic first person shooter, has been given a pilot order for a TV series produced by James and Dave Franco by the USA Network.

As reported by Deadline, the project will see David Kushner's 2003 non-fiction book about the story of John Romero and John Carmack, and how they came together to create id Software and the gory game that set the template for most of modern video gaming as we know it. It'll be written by Tom Bithell, who was one of the writers for the Gears of War franchise.

The executive producers include Bissell and Ramona Films, the production company owned by Dave and James Franco – both household name actors and were responsible for the 2017 movie about the production of Tommy Wiseau's The Room called The Disaster Artist.

The book Masters of Doom is excellent, with our former editor Alice mentioning it in her reccomendations for some of the best video game books you can read last year.  The latest iteration of the game series – Doom Eternal – meanwhile is gearing up for a November 19 release on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC and will be playable for the first time outside of the US at Quakecon Europe next month.
