Super Meat Boy’s Edmund McMillen and Closure’s Tyler Glaiel are launching The End is Nigh on Steam on July 12. The game will be available on Nintendo Switch at a later date, and may also see a release on other consoles too, but Xbox and/or PS4 versions are not yet confirmed.

McMillen took to his blog to break down the general premise of the game saying, ‘Follow Ash as he flops his way through a future of pain and suffering. Feel his stress levels rise as you throw him into an endless swarm of decaying, mutant animal-like creatures and help aid his final epic quest… to simply make a friend (out of pieces of people he finds along his journey). Oh, also you collect video game cartridges and tumors! if that does anything for ya.’

It appears to be a pretty meaty affair as there’s over 600 stages on offer, as well as over 20 mini-games in the game that can be accessed through the aforementioned collectable cartridges. There’s tons of other things in here that will please those who enjoy rinsing a game like hundreds of collectable tumours (yeah) and even some hidden endings.

McMillen and Glaiel worked together on the hugely successful The Binding of Isaac, so there’ll naturally be an awful lot of interest in this one. You can check out the teaser trailer below, or a collection of screenshots by clicking on the image.
