Team Ninja is already working on the next main instalment in the Ninja Gaiden franchise, the developer has revealed.

Speaking in a promotional video for next year’s spin-off Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z (translated by Siliconera), Team Ninja boss Yosuku Hayashi acknowledged that “there have been some Ninja Gaiden fans who have said Yaiba’s not the hardcore action game that they’re looking for. Honestly, they’re a little hesitant about the game.

“To those people I say this: Team Ninja is thinking of the next Ninja Gaiden.”

Hayashi likened the main series to a “rich meaty entree” and Yaiba, which is being created by Lost Planet 3 developer Spark Unlimited and headed up by Dead Rising creator Keiji Inafune, as “dessert”.

“You just let it out that you’re coming up with the next [juicy] steak!” added Inafune. “So to the people waiting for that next Ninja Gaiden, it’s coming! And in the meantime, enjoy Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z!”

Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z features similar gameplay to previous Ninja Gaiden titles but a vastly different tone and cel-shaded visuals. The game launches on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC on February 28, 2014.
