Astro’s Playroom developer Team Asobi has confirmed it’s working on its “most ambitious game yet” as it launches the studio’s brand new website today.
The new website’s About Us page reads “We are a new and dynamic PlayStation Studio based in vibrant Tokyo, Japan. We create top-quality games for players of all ages on PlayStation”. It follows up by revealing “We’re currently hard at work on our most ambitious game yet!”
While it hasn’t given much detail about its next project, the latest PlayStation Studio team is hiring for several roles as spotted by Gematsu. These include roles as a Game Designer, a Gameplay Programmer and an Animator amongst several other positions at the Tokyo-based developer. Notably, the latter of these adverts reveals the role will see them work on “cartoony and mechanical” characters. Perhaps from this we can infer it’ll be remaining in the universe of Astro and chums for a while yet?

It’s certainly a wise choice if that’s the direction the studio decides to head in. We loved Astro’s Playroom here at Videogamer. In his review of the PlayStation 5 launch title, Josh said the team had “forged a platformer from the same blend of delirium and precision that blows through Super Mario, and then filled it with fossils.”
Hopefully we’ll get to see what Team Asobi have up their sleeves in the not-too-distant future. In the meantime, Astro’s Playroom is available now for the PlayStation 5.
