Nightdive Studios has declared that its upcoming System Shock Remake will now launch on PC in late May – having previously been scheduled for this month.

The team updated fans on Steam with the news to explain the delay, saying “We had hoped to bring the game to market by the end of March, but that turned out to be just beyond our reach; we are after all merely human (unlike Shodan!)”

System Shock Remake release date

The System Shock Remake release date is now set on PC for May 30, 2023. It’ll release on Steam.

It was also noted in the announcement that the game will still be coming to Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 “in due course” – with more information on those to come at a later date.

The game’s protracted development has previously been addressed on the game’s Kickstarter back in January.

Back then, they said “the scope and scale of the project has evolved dramatically and with Prime Matter joining the project it’s enabled us to focus on quality-of-life improvements, bug fixing, and localization support.”

The extra time has allowed them to add a lot of detail to areas like the Citadel, and even add some new enemies for the player to face as an extra challenge on top of the original.

The team’s previously shown off a couple of videos of the game in action, including the much-touted dismemberment system.

System Shock is, of course, a hallowed name in the world of shooters – being the game that would go on to spawn other classics like Bioshock.

The remake was targeting a 2020 release window back in 2018, and got a ‘Final Demo’ in 2021. It was then slipped into 2022 as it got a new publisher in Prime Matter.

Hopefully, with a solidified exact date given (rather than the previous month-long window) – this System Shock remake release date will finally be the one that sticks.
