Super Smash Bros. Ultimate sold over five million copies worldwide during its first week alone, Nintendo big cheese Shuntaro Furukawa confirmed during a chinwag with a Japanese newspaper (via Dr. Serkan Toto).

We already knew Mazza's latest punch-up was a huge success, but five million in one week? That's pretty incredible. For comparison's sake, God of War hit the five million milestone after one month, and that was one of last year's biggest games on PlayStation 4.

Elsewhere, Furukawa-san revealed that the Switch has seen the fastest software sales of any Ninty console to date.

Rich Walker thought Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was an absolute knockout in his review.
