The first of the Nintendo themed areas for Universal Parks & Resorts will be Super Nintendo World, opening at Universal Studios Japan in time for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Universal Studios Japan has announced.

Two further Nintendo themed areas will open at a later date at Orlando and Hollywood locations.

“Super Nintendo World will be comprised of expansive and multilevel environments filled with unprecedented, state-of-the-art rides, interactive areas, shops and restaurants, all featuring Nintendo’s most popular characters and games,” reads the press release from Universal Studios Japan.

The cost of developing the themed area is expected to exceed 50 billion Yen, that’s approximately £340 million.

Expect Super Nintendo World to feature characters and themes from the Super Mario series, plus a variety of other “globally popular Nintendo characters”.
