Some single-player Super Mario Odyssey gameplay was shown off during Nintendo’s E3 Spotlight presentation, but during a behind-closed-doors meeting, the game’s producer Yoshiaki Koizumi was asked about multiplayer and gave an interesting answer.

‘Well, the first thing I would want to say about multiplayer is that since this is the Nintendo Switch, and it does have two controllers, it’s very easy for you to imagine handing one to another person, so there’s probably something that you will hear about multiplayer.’

He added that ‘the timing is not quite there, so I hope you’re able to wait just a little bit longer to hear about that. And then as for network features, since this is something the hardware is capable of, there might be something that you’ll hear about there as well, and I hope you’ll look forward to it.’

While it’s a little non-committal, it sounds likely that we may get some form of multiplayer in the game, hopefully something akin to last 3D Mario game, Super Mario 3D World.

Super Mario Odyssey will be released on October 27 on Nintendo Switch.
