Tim Willits, former co-founder and current Studio Director at Doom, Quake and Rage developer id Software has announced that he's stepping down from his position after this year's Quakecon.
Making the announcement on Twitter, the 24 year veteran of the company said 'I’ve been extremely lucky to work with the best people in the industry on truly amazing games. QuakeCon has been an unbelievable part of my journey and I look forward to seeing everyone at the Gaylord Texan.' (site of this year's Quakecon event.)
He'd been at the company almost since its inception, being credited as one of the co-founders, although only formally joined them in 1996 after impressing the development team by creating his own free levels for the original Shareware version of Doom. He would later go on to become Lead Designer on Doom 3, the Creative Director on Rage and overseeing the Doom reboot as Studio Director.
Willits further went on to clarify that none of id Software's upcoming games, including Doom Eternal would be affected by his departure, and he'll announce where he's off to next after Quakecon itself, which is set to take place on July 26 and July 27 at the same time as Quakecon Europe.
