With the Evolution Championship Series (EVO) 2023 just around the corner, Street Fighter 6 fans were a little surprised to see that the game’s upcoming DLC character, Rashid will be playable at the tournament despite only releasing a full 11 days before the tournament takes place.

Taking to Twitter, the official Capcom Fighters account confirmed that Rashid would feature at the Street Fighter 6 tournament at EVO. They said, “To help clarify, Rashid will be an eligible character for the SF6 tournament at EVO 2023. Good luck to everyone!” Surprised by the decision, many fans were disappointed by the news with one player saying, “Damn imagine paying $150 for late registration, flying across the world, to get randomed out in pools by a who-we-know-will-be-top-tier Rashid.”

Another player noted that they feel bad for decent Street Fighter 6 players who will now have to do even more work in a short period of time to study Rashid. They said, “I feel bad for the decent players who have to put in a lot of work, go to EVO, and get washed out against a Rashid because of lack of practice.” While a number of players have been frustrated at Capcom’s decision to choose, as one player put it, “the route of chaos,” other players aren’t too worried about Rashid’s inclusion in the tournament. User Aggrokid pointed out that while players will need to study to play against Rashid, Rashid players will need to learn counters for all the other fighters.

Other fans agreed with this assessment. One player said, “I don’t know why this is really that controversial. The Rashid players literally have 11 days to optimize a character against people who had close to 2 months with theres and then figure out 18 matchups.” Needless to say, Rashid’s inclusion will surely make for entertaining viewing for any EVO fans.
