Stellar Blade was already a huge hit when it released on PS5, but it has become even bigger following its launch on PC. In just hours after its launch on Steam, it broke the record for peak concurrent player count of a single-player PlayStation exclusive on PC, and its momentum has continued thanks to a flurry of mods as well as because the game is genuinely good. Naturally, with all the hype that has emerged, new and old fans of Eve are desperate to know about plans for a sequel. The good news is that a sequel is planned, and the Stellar Blade 2 director wants a 2027 release.
Stellar Blade 2 director aims for 2027 release
Stellar Blade director, Kim Hyung-Tae, recently conducted an interview with Korean outlet, thisisgame. During the interview, it was brought up that reports suggested scrapped story DLC had been converted to the second game with a release planned for 2027. Asked if a 2027 release for Stellar Blade 2 is plausible, Kim admitted that SHIFT UP will try, but work has barely started.
The director said, “it’s hard to say that the next game has been developed a lot” because “Currently, all the manpower has been put into the PC version”. Kim added, “Now is the time when we are thinking a lot about ‘how to show the vision of the next generation’ and conducting R&D”.
With the acknowledgement that the game is still in the research and development phase, Kim said, “It would be great if it came out in 2027, but since there are only three years left, I can only say that I will try my best”. Lastly, while a 2027 release isn’t certain, Kim did give assurances that it’s “going to be great”.
It would be fantastic to have Stellar Blade 2 come out in 2027, but fans shouldn’t bank on it definitely happening. Whether it comes out in 2027 or not, the good news is that a sequel starring Eve is coming. Unfortunately, the director didn’t answer whether the sequel will be PlayStation-first, so there is the likelihood the sequel will launch on console before PC.
With a 2027 release targeted, it’s possible Stellar Blade 2 could be one of the first PlayStation exclusives to land on PS6. There’s no official release window for the PS6, but rumors have suggested 2027/28, and Sony has just said the next-gen console is only a few years away.
