Stellar Blade is now on PC after months of PlayStation 5 exclusivity. The AAA hack-and-slash game from NIKKE developer ShiftUp did well on console last year, but PC players are taking that success and ramping it up to eleven.
Stellar Blade crushes PlayStation PC records
In Stellar Blade, players take control of Eve, an android in a skintight suit, as they fight through an apocalyptic Earth, battling monsters and unlocking a variety of outfits to play dress-up with. Oh, and you collect cans, for some reason Eve loves cans.
On Steam alone, Stellar Blade is the highest performing single-player PlayStation game on PC yet. Despite the fervour of bringing major console exclusive franchises like God of War, Uncharted and Spider-Man to the platform, Stellar Blade is crushing records left and right.
Prior to ShiftUp’s game, the peak concurrent player count for a single-player PlayStation game on PC belonged to Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered with 66,436. In second place, Horizon: Zero Dawn Complete Edition hit its peak of 56,557.
At the time of writing, Stellar Blade’s peak concurrent player count rests at 104,311 as of three minutes ago, and it’s still rising. However, it can’t hold a candle to the actual biggest PC PlayStation launch: Helldivers 2.
Since release, Helldivers 2 has seen multiple events bring its concurrent Steam player count above Stellar Blade’s peak with an all-time high of over 400,000 players. However, as far as PlayStation’s single-player releases go, this risqué hack-and-slash game is, by far, the most successful. (The Last of Us: Part 1 hit a peak of just 36,496.)
Of course, one of the reasons the PC release of ShiftUp’s action game is so successful is because of mods, of which there are already hundreds. In the hours since release, players have already crafted many outfits for Eve to wear including looks from The First Descendant, Zenless Zone Zero and more. There’s also a mod that makes the evade sound effect the sound effect from Dragon Ball Z, which is awesome.
This isn’t the end of ShiftUp’s plans for Stellar Blade. At the time of writing, the team has already jumped into development on a second game for PlayStation 5 which will likely bring even more outfits to the game’s protagonist. Hopefully, that game will also gain a PC release – after these sales it would be weird not to.
