There are rumors of a State of Play planned for February 2026, which wouldn’t be surprising, as it’s a common occurrence from Sony. State of Play events feature trailers and announcements for first-party exclusives and third-party games coming to PS5, and as the rumored event for this month draws near, Hideo Kojima has teased that he’s working on a new game trailer.

Hideo Kojima is the famed creator of the Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding series. On February 5, Kojima posted on X, “Editing for the first time in… 8 months?” alongside an image of him editing a video. While it’s impossible to see exactly what he’s working on, the small preview includes a black screen that appears to read, “A Hideo Kojima Game”.

Assuming a trailer from Kojima Productions appears during a State of Play this month, the most likely scenario is an announcement trailer for Death Stranding 2 on PC.

The original Death Stranding launched exclusively on PS4 in November 2019 before arriving on Steam in July 2020. In November 2025, an age rating for Death Stranding 2 on PC was leaked via the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB), which provides age ratings for video games in the United States.

The other two games Kojima is currently developing are OD and Physint. OD is an experimental horror title involving collaborators such as filmmaker Jordan Peele, while Physint marks a return to the espionage genre in the vein of the Metal Gear Solid series.

As of this writing, OD is only confirmed for Xbox and PC, although it’s likely the game will eventually join PS5. Meanwhile, Physint is several years away, making an appearance at this event extremely unlikely.

When is the rumored State of Play in February 2026?

There’s no official date for the rumored State of Play, but Jeff Grubb of Giant Bomb has claimed it will take place during the week of February 12. Grubb has a strong track record with State of Play leaks, though Sony has yet to make any announcement.

In 2025, Sony hosted a State of Play on February 12, while in 2023, the event took place on February 23. There was also a showcase on February 2, 2022, and in 2021, the event occurred on February 25. Notably, these presentations typically occurred on a Wednesday, with 2023 being the lone exception on a Thursday.

Based on this pattern, and assuming Grubb’s information is accurate, the most likely date is either February 11 or February 12. However, we have to wait for an official announcement from Sony.

Beyond the possibility of a new Kojima trailer, there’s plenty else that could appear. A recent leak claims Starfield will release for PS5 on April 7. Meanwhile, Tomb Raider Legacy of Atlantis is set to launch in 2026, and February 14 is Lara Croft’s canonical birthday.

An appearance from Resident Evil Requiem is also likely ahead of its February 27 release date. Marathon would also be a natural fit, given its March 5 launch. Sony acquired Marathon developer Bungie in 2022 for a reported $3.6 billion, and a lot is riding on the game’s success, especially after Sony admitted its live-service push has “not entirely gone smoothly” following the failure of Concord.

The reemergence of Marvel’s Wolverine would also be exciting, with insider Jason Schreier claiming Wolverine is targeting a September or October release to avoid GTA 6.
