VentureBeat reports that online gaming start-up Gazillion Entertainment has announced itself as a major player in the MMO market thanks to a ten-year license to make online video games based on any of the 5,000 characters from the Marvel universe.

The first game is a child-friendly online world based on the Marvel property, Super Hero Squad. The new cartoon will make its debut on the Cartoon Network in the autumn, while the game is scheduled for 2010 having already been in development for a year. The series will feature familiar superheroes such as Iron Man, Hulk, Wolverine, Thor, Fantastic Four and Captain America.

Additionally, Gazillion is working on what VentureBeat describes as a “giant Marvel game”. The game is dubbed Marvel Universe and is said to be in development for PC and console platforms.
