The Starfield hype is starting to reach an all-time high as the game’s in-depth showcase back in the beginning of June gave spectators an even better look at all that the outer space adventure has to offer. However, a large number of fans are still tempering their expectations for Bethesda’s upcoming creation as players are naturally trying to avoid having their dreams crushed once again by another Cyberpunk 2077 launch situation.
The infamous release of CD Projekt Red’s futuristic open world game has been well-documented as the dystopian title was previously one of the most anticipated games in its class when it was first announced. Unfortunately, its plethora of bugs, visual problems, NPC issues, and gamebreaking crashes on opening day made Cyberpunk 2077’s launch less-than-memorable to the general public.
Now, with the scale of Starfield being as large, if not larger, than Cyberpunk 2077’s, these players’ decisions to be wary ahead of its much-ballyhooed release date becomes predictable as no person wants to suffer through another disappointing launch that’ll have you rethinking your spending habits. In addition, it also seems as if the decision to wait it out has resonated with numerous other players as evidenced by the popularity of a recently created Reddit thread.
According to the post’s creator, they’ve apparently decided to “hold back” and avoid pre-ordering until they’re sure Starfield is as good as the preview. A majority of the commenters agreed with this sentiment with one Redditor saying “it isn’t worth the risk for me.” “Bethesda games being so open to modding means it is very hard to lock you from just downloading [pieces of DLC] the same way you download mods,” the same user continued.
Based on the breathtaking previews that Bethesda has provided so far, Starfield’s brilliant environmental design and massive scale makes an issue-free launch seem too good to be true. But, since the game hasn’t actually been released yet, we’ll just have to remain patient for now until the day of reckoning rolls around to find out if it’s worth all the hype.
