It seems there’s a growing number of older gamers gearing up for the release of space-faring RPG Starfield launches later this year proving that age is no barrier when it comes to deep space adventure.
A thread on the game’s official subreddit gives the impression that there’ll be a substantial number of senior citizen players who’ll be picking Starfield up on launch day. “I am 71,” opens Jpcox3981 “and was wondering how many old farts are here waiting for Starfield. I was 5 when Sputnik launched… which I don’t remember. Probably more into Davey Crockett then.”
They’ll be joined on launch day by Gorn-A-Phobe, who proudly states “Yup, 63 here! I dragged a younger brother out of bed to watch ALL of the Apollo missions that landed on the Moon, despite his protests!” In how the game will pay service to his lifelong fascination with space, Gorn adds “Starfield sure seems to be the future of the sort of space exploration gaming experience that’s been largely missing for some time. I’m really excited about it!”
There’s been plenty of positive sentiment on the thread from the community hearing about these silver spacefarers, even from those on the younger side as they’ve been sharing stories of elder family members who’ll be getting in on the action. “I’m 27 but my mom is 58 and she is as hyped as I am to Starfield’s release,” says EntertainmentTight86. And though they’re not a lock for the game yet, JollyMuppet reports his own family member may be one of the oldest yet. “My Grandad who is in his early 90s is interested in Starfield. He’s played a lot of Fallout 4, so when I mentioned a new game by Bethesda with the typical feel that comes with their games, he was interested for sure. Already got himself a Steam account and up-to-date PC to play it. Says he’ll wait for reviews once the game comes out and he’ll make a decision then.”
It’s certainly a heartwarming thought that they’ll be plenty of older players strapping on their space boots come the Starfield release date of September 4. Sadly, perhaps the most famous elderly Bethesda fan Shirley Curry (better known as Skyrim Grandma) looks like she won’t be one of those, after she responded to a fan on her YouTube comments section a couple of weeks ago. But if this thread is anything to go by, you won’t have to do much Elder Scroll-ing to find more elderly astronauts.
