Bethesda executive producer Todd Howard has revealed that their team never considered sacrificing Starfield features to hit the all-important 60fps milestone that numerous fans had been longing for. Although the outer space adventure’s relative lack of a performance mode became a major talking point within the community, it seems that visual fidelity was never a point of emphasis for the game’s developers.
Speaking in an interview with Kinda Funny Games, Howard noted that “we never looked at taking features away; our focus is on delivering all of that.” “We lean towards consistency overall” and it shows in the finished product as Starfield is apparently “the best feeling game” that Bethesda has ever had, he remarked.
Of course, this decision may just be for the best as the massive scale of Starfield would undoubtedly make most gaming platforms struggle under its intense system requirements. But, naturally, this still comes as a slight disappointment to fans as many had been hoping that Bethesda’s highly anticipated open space epic would include all of the useful current generation graphical features that would make it even more of a mainstream hit.
Luckily, it seems as if the lack of a 60fps performance mode is an aspect that most people are willing to do without based on most of the positive comments below the official interview clip. But, even though Todd Howard’s comments make the addition of this feature to Starfield seem unlikely, it could eventually be introduced in a future patch, much like what many other AAA games have done in the past.
While you wait for the inclusion of a 60fps performance mode, though, we suggest checking out our guides on all Starfield companions and abilities, the United Colonies faction, and the Constellation faction so you know what to expect before starting your interplanetary adventure.
