While fans are undoubtedly excited for Starfield to launch later this year, it was confirmed early this week that the game won’t have any land vehicles. However, while this confirmation might have disappointed some, a lot of Starfield fans aren’t too concerned about the space adventure’s lack of land transport.

Speaking on the Kinda Funny Xcast on Thursday, Todd Howard confirmed that Bethesda’s upcoming game wouldn’t have any land vehicles. During the interview, he said, “We do design it, we’ve seen this with our other games where we wanna design it where it feels good on foot, but we do have the boost pack, you have skills for the boost pack, so the boost pack almost acts like this vehicle, super fun, where you can fly through, and then the low gravity planets are really something special.”

While some players were disappointed at this confirmation, many have focused on Howard’s comments about the boost pack which looks like it’ll be the game’s primary form of land traversal. It’s been impossible for Starfield to escape comparisons to games like No Man’s Sky but in this case that might work in Starfield’s favour. On user on Reddit noted that it, “Sounds like upgrading jet pack skills will make traversal faster. I imagine maybe “skipping” like NMS upgraded jet pack. Especially on low grav planets. I had planned to dump points into that skill tree asap myself.”

Generally, fans of Starfield seem to be totally fine with Bethesda’s approach to prioritizing boost pack movement. In another post, user ChromaticDilation said, “No land vehicles makes complete sense with how they’re handling exploration.” Players agreed with one user saying, “We got jetpacks…I think we ok.”

While some fans are happy with the lack of land vehicles, others like user foz97 are now looking to modders to flesh out this absent feature in the game. They said, “Here’s hoping some modders make a sort of grapple tool, swinging through some of the trees would be pretty fun on lower g planets.”

The lack of vehicles isn’t the only aspect of Howard’s interview that fans have focused on as, 90% of the 1000+ planets in Starfield will have no life, according to Todd Howard.
