In a post on the Stardew Valley website, the Chucklefish developer working on multiplayer for the extremely popular farming sim has revealed details of the upcoming multiplayer – including that beta testing is expected to start by the end of the year.

Following the beta, multiplayer is planned to push through to the game in a patch in ‘early 2018’.

They also revealed more on how the multiplayer will work in the game. When you start the game you’ll have the option of adding up to four cabins to your farm. The farmhands that live in them are you friends joining you in multiplayer! They can do almost everything you can, although the main player is the only one who can decide when to sleep and trigger festivals.

You’ll also be able to marry your friends, assuming that won’t make your IRL relationship a bit awkward, although the system for that isn’t fully decided upon yet. This is understandable though, because so far implementing the multiplayer has resulted in over 15,000 lines of code being rewritten.
