Despite some pre-release criticism, Star Wars Outlaws has been a hit since it launched on August 30th and it seems that the community backlash largely aimed at Ubisoft hasn’t affected its popularity with the mainstream audience. With only one day of the sales chart before the week’s end, Star Wars Outlaws has managed to land in the number 1 spot, showing the strength of both Ubisoft as a developer and Star Wars as a brand.
When looking at the video game charts, there is one game that immediately jumps out as being missing, especially as its popularity made headlines with over 2 million concurrent players on Steam and over 10 million sales in its first three days, and that is Black Myth Wukong. Despite seeing a physical release on PS5, it didn’t come with a disc and instead was just a digital activation code. This has likely led to most players just opting to purchase directly from the digital stores, which could explain its absence from the charts. Had it come with a disc, it would be unusual that it didn’t at least make an appearance somewhere on the chart considering its immense popularity.
It will also be interesting to see where Star Wars Outlaws lands on the US sales charts when those figures are released in a few weeks. Last month, College Football 25 and its MVP Bundle, which packaged Madden 25 alongside it, stormed the charts in numbers 1 and 2, with College Football 25 already becoming the best-selling game of the year, knocking Helldivers 2 off the top spot that it had held for much of 2024.
We are currently in the calm before the storm as we’re just a few weeks from entering Autumn when many of the heavy hitter games begin to release including the likes of Black Ops 6, The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, and Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
Here is the full UK video game sales chart for the week ending August 30th, 2024.
