Aspyr Media and Lucasfilm Games have confirmed a remake of classic RPG Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic – as a PlayStation 5 exclusive.

The announcement was made as part of the PlayStation Showcase this week. Though light on detail, we’re promised “modern tech, features, visuals and more” will be included in the remake.

We get a little bit more information on the PlayStation Blog where the team explain their reasoning for the remake. “With Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic – Remake, our hope is to give both series newcomers and long-term fans an experience that can live alongside the very best modern releases. We’re rebuilding it from the ground up with the latest tech to match the groundbreaking standard of innovation established by the original, all while staying true to its revered story.”

The team at Aspyr has worked closely with Lucasfilm Games on other recent Star Wars remakes such as Star Wars Episode One: Racer and Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast. However, they’ve also managed to pick up some members of the original Knights of the Old Republic development team to work on the remake too.

There’s no date yet for the remake, with the team saying they’re still early in development. Hopefully, we’ll hear more soon. Check out the debut Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake trailer below.
