Star Wars Battlefront 2 will release in late 2017, EA has confirmed.

Speaking during the publisher’s Q2 earnings call last night, CFO Blake Jorgensen explained that EA has “the next Battlefront coming a year from now”, along with a new Star Wars action game potentially due before April 2018. That’s almost certainly Visceral’s new game, although Titanfall developer Respawn also has a Star Wars title in development, too.

EA actually confirmed that a new Star Wars Battlefront game is coming next year back in May, but this is the first sign we’ve had of a more specific release window. The game will feature “bigger and better worlds” from the new Star Wars films, and is being developed by DICE in collaboration with new studio Motive.

With the release window in mind, you should expect Star Wars Battlefront 2 to be going up against whatever Sledgehammer has cooking for next year’s Call of Duty. While Activision has yet to officially announce the game or Sledgehammer’s involvement, the franchise’s 3-year development cycle suggests that it’s the Advanced Warfare studio’s turn to step up to the plate next.

Star Wars Battlefront launched on PS4, Xbox One and PC in November 2015. The game shipped over 14 million units within its first 5 months on sale.
