Apocalyptic survival game Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl has launched to mixed reviews, but the game’s sales are still higher than many would’ve expected. After just 24 hours, the anomaly-filled shooter has sold over a million copies across PC and Xbox Series consoles.

GSC announces Stalker 2 sales

After just a day of release, Stalker 2 developer GSC Game World announced that the brand-new sequel has already sold a million copies. While the game has been met with a great deal of controversy for its broken A-Life systems and weapon durability, gamers are still piling into the game.

In a post on Discord, the team thanked players for trying out the game, even in its current state. With a host of patches planned for address issues, the team wanted to express their gratitude to players.

“No wonder it feels a bit crowdy in the Zone,” the developer said. “A million copies were sold, and much more stalkers joined the artifact hunt with Game Pass. This is just the start of our unforgettable adventure. The Heart of Chornobyl emanates stronger with each of us. With gratitude as deep as the X-Labs network, we want to say: Thank You, stalkers!”

GSC Game World has not revealed how many Game Pass players the new survival game has. However, considering the title’s pitch as a key Xbox console exclusive and it’s inclusion in PC Game Pass as well, we would assume the game’s total player count is substantially higher than the initial million sales.

While it is hard to recommend Stalker 2 for all gamers, the new survival game is a beast unlike any other. If you do have Game Pass, or you’re a fan of the previous games, this is a game that you should definitely give a shot.
