After fifteen years of waiting, Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl has been released on PC and Xbox to mixed reviews. While we were very positive in our review, there are issues that many players are unsatisfied with, such as the implementation of the game’s A-Life AI systems.
In response to fan distress, developer GSC Game World has confirmed that huge patches are on the way to address the current state of “A-Life 2.0” and make the recent sequel more realistic in the future.
Stalker 2 to fix A-Life 2.0
In the original Stalker games, the A-Life system was a complex mechanic that allowed a grid of the world map to keep track of everything and simulate their actions. For example, NPC factions that spawned in a tracked grid could wander to the same path as another faction and initiate a battle that you could then join or avoid.
In Heart of Chornobyl, A-Life 2.0 has been implemented, but the system is far from perfect. Nevertheless, as GSC Game World explained in an open letter to fans, the system is just one area of improvements the team is dedicated to implementing. Talking to fans on Discord, multiple developers explained that there are “several known issues with A-Life 2.0” in the launch version of Stalker 2.
“We know that this system is very important to the Zone having an immersive atmosphere, and we will do our best to fix the known issues,” one developer said on Discord. “We are aware of this behavior,” said another. “We will be fixing A-Life 2.0 with [sic] nearest patches.”
At the moment, A-Life 2.0 doesn’t appear to be working in most scenarios and enemy spawns are not as emergent as the original games’. However, with years of support and patches on the way, there’s hope that the game will see huge improvements in the future.
