Publisher Assemble Entertainment and developer Loomiarts have announced their 1950’s inspired shoot-em-up Squadron 51 will arrive in 2022.

The plot sees an alien force arrive on Earth promising a prosperous future for mankind. Of course, in reality the sinister VEGA Corporation is not as it seems, and it’s down to rebel group Squadron 51 to rise up and fight the alien oppressors and their spacecraft.

Squadron 51 puts a unique spin on proceedings by being presented just like an old black-and-white B movie. This extends past the live-action FMV sequences and even into gameplay itself in a manner similar to Cuphead. You can expect “classic” shoot-em-up gameplay including being able to pick from one of four unique aircraft with customizable weapons.

There’s eleven different environments to fly through, and the game also boasts a dynamic difficulty system too. There’s also drop-in co-op supported too, so a friend can join you in some alien blasting. What’s more is a free Prologue demo is available now on Steam for you to try the game out.

Check out the trailer for the game for yourself below. Squadron 51 will head for a full release on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC in 2022.
