According to Split/Second producer Jason Reid, the upcoming high octane Disney racing game shares more in common with Activision’s Call of Duty franchise and Sony’s Uncharted than with more obvious competitor Blur.

“Blur is obviously competition – it’s racing and it’s doing things slightly different as well. But we almost feel we’re closer to Call of Duty or Uncharted in what we do than other racing games,” Reid told CVG.

Reid explained why he believes this is the case: “Animation-wise, Split/Second is the most ambitious thing that’s ever been done in a racing game. So that is where we come down to the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Uncharted 2 comparison – because of these huge set pieces.”

It’s hard to argue with him. Split/Second will see players triggering spectacular in-race events, including sending an airliner crashing in the track and smashing a huge ferry into another part of a circuit.

Split/Second Velocity is scheduled for release on May 21 for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
