Roguelike platforming games Spelunky & Spelunky 2 will both land on the Nintendo Switch on August 26, it’s been announced.

In both games, players must navigate their way through a series of randomly generated dungeons. Along the way they have to avoid traps, watch out for enemies and amassing as much gold as possible. There’s multiple characters, branching paths and many items to find and use. There’s also local and online multiplayer, as well as leaderboards to challenge your friends.

The original Spelunky first launched as a freeware title on PC all the way back in 2008. It then got an enhanced makeover for the Xbox 360 back in 2012 and was later ported to PC and PS3. The sequel then landed on PlayStation 4 and PC in 2020.  It was first announced that both games would arrive on Nintendo Switch at the tail end of last year.

While we’ve not reviewed the sequel, our reviewer said of the first game: “Spelunky’s world is one of mechanical precision. The game’s monsters, traps and chasms run like clockwork, and for the most part the two-strong development team at Mossmouth have ensured that manoeuvring the game’s multiple floors is both intricately engineered and neatly balanced.”

You can check out a trailer for the upcoming release below. Spelunky and its sequel Spelunky 2 will both be available on the Nintendo Switch from August 26.
