Publisher Dear Villagers has announced a May 19 release date for retro-styled action-RPG Souldiers.

The game promises to mix together Soulslike combat with Metroidvania exploration. Using an art style inspired by classic 16-bit games, you’ll get to pick from one of three heroes; a scout, caster or archer. You’ll then take your chosen hero on a battle for freedom across a mystical land known as Terragaya.

You’ll have to outwit a bunch of enemies, solve puzzles and upgrade your character if you want to succeed. To help along the way, each class has its own unique attacks and stats. These heroes can then be further customised thanks to their unique skill trees, that’ll allow you to build the character to suit your playstyle.

Along the way, you’ll discover a sprawling handcrafted world, with plenty of treasures, secret pathways to discover and bosses to take down. You’ll unlock more areas of the world as you gain more abilities, and these will help you solve some smart environmental puzzles too as your moveset increases. You can check out a trailer for the game for yourself down below.

Souldiers arrives on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC on May 19.
