525,000 PlayStation 3 consoles and 160,000 PS Vitas were sold in the US during Black Friday week, Sony has announced.

This compares pretty unfavourably to the 750,000 Xbox 360s, 275,000 DSs and 250,000 3DSs sold during the same time frame. Nintendo also sold 400,000 Wii Us and 300,000 Wiis.

Sony pointed to the sell out success of the Ultimate PlayStation Value Bundle, which included a 250GB PS3, Uncharted 1 & 2, and the inFamous Collection for $199. Similarly, Sony says its $199 PS Vita bundles – packed in with Assassin’s Creed 3: Liberation, Black Ops: Declassified or LEGO Batman 2.

“We’re very pleased with the Black Friday sales results, especially the incredible reception for the PS3 and PS Vita bundles,” said SCEA president and CEO, Jack Tretton. “The demand was very strong which quickly depleted our inventory across retailers nationwide.”
