Gran Turismo 5 won’t only be a strong seller, but will also help move new hardware sales, Sony has said.

“2010 has been one of the strongest years in recent memory for quality game releases, and we have culminated the year with the launch of Gran Turismo 5,” Sony’s UK head of PR David Wilson told MCV.

“GT5 has been in the making for five years and we believe that it will serve as a true driver of new console purchases. We know it has been a long wait, but we genuinely believe that fans of Gran Turismo will not be disappointed.”

GT5, the first full game in the franchise released on PS3, should prove a console seller, attracting Gran Turismo fans who have thus far resisted investing in the console.

However, given that the PS3 has been available for four years now, it’s likely many Gran Turismo fans will have already made the jump.
