Sony Computer Entertainment America has released new information of its upcoming PS3 exclusive action sequel God of War 3, following the game’s debut gameplay trailer shown at the Spike TV Video Game Awards early this morning.
Developed by SCE’s Santa Monica Studios, God of War 3 promises to bring epic battles to life with “stunning graphics” and an elaborate plot that puts Kratos at the centre of the carnage and destruction as he seeks revenge against the Gods who have betrayed him.
“We have large shoes to fill following the success of the previously released God of War titles,” said Stig Asmussen, Game Director for God of War 3. “But with refined gameplay and jaw-dropping visuals, I guarantee that God of War will give fans what they have been eagerly waiting for, and much more.”
Sony notes that the game has been built from the ground up using a new game engine and state-of-the-art visual technologies. It’s claimed that the development team has made “significant strides” in giving players the realistic feel of actually being on the battlegrounds and the game will feature texture resolutions which have been quadrupled since God of War 2.
Sony also notes that God of War 3 will feature fluid, life-like characters, dynamic lighting effects, a robust weapon system and world-changing scenarios that will bring “unmistakable realism” to Kratos’ quest.
Although God of War III is expected to be released in 2009, Sony hasn’t announced an official release date.
