Sony has today announced PSN PLAY; a new program offering four different games over the course of four weeks. Think Summer of Arcade with PSN games, with extra bonuses and rewards thrown in, and you’re along the right lines.

On August 10, the four games involved in the promotion become available for pre-order through the PSN Store. For every game that’s pre-ordered, you’ll be rewarded with a theme for your PS3.

Additionally, with each PLAY purchase, you’ll get a free gift. With Street Fighter III Third Strike, for example – the first game in the promotion – you’ll unlock GILL, the self-proclaimed god, as day-one DLC. Normally you’d have to beat the game with every character to unlock this character.

PlayStation Plus subscribers will also receive a 20 per cent discount on every PLAY program purchase made on or before 20 September 2011.

Anybody that buys all four titles will be rewarded with a fifth game – PAYDAY: The Heist – for free.

The four games involved in the promotion are as follows:

August 24: Street Fighter III Third Strike Online Edition

August 31: The Baconing

September 7: BloodRayne: Betrayal

September 14: Renegade Ops

Bonus Gift: PAYDAY: The Heist

Whilst a clear attempt to follow in the footsteps of Microsoft, the PLAY promotion is fuelled with some good games and interesting incentives. Anybody likely to pre-order any of these next week?
