Sniper Ghost Warrior is on track to reach 2 million unit sales and the publisher is aiming for the same target soon after the release of Sniper 2. City Interactive revealed the sales expectations talking to MCV at E3 last week.

According to City Interactive the original Sniper Ghost Warrior is about to reach 1.5 million units sold and will arrive on PS3 in North America on June 28.

“We want to make Sniper 2 bigger than Sniper 1, and that game is approaching 1.5m units,” CEO Marek Tyminski told MCV. “It’s just a matter of time before we break the 2m units sold across all three platforms. That’s our benchmark and we want to hit the same numbers soon after the release of Sniper 2. We have solid plans to support that.”

Sniper Ghost Warrior didn’t impress critics, but the sequel is being built on Crytek’s CryEngine 3 and looks considerably more impressive. Sniper 2 is due for release in 2012.

If the original Sniper can reach such a sales figure, who knows what the sequel can manage. If the game is a better product sales well in excess of 2 million could be achieved.
