The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim shipped seven million units worldwide, with launch units expected to generate more than $450 million in global retail sales.

Of the seven million units shipped, more than 50 per cent were sold during the first 48 hours on sale and Bethesda Softworks has been receiving “large reorders from major retailers in North America, and across Europe and Australia”.

“We are grateful for the fans’ response to Skyrim,” said Robert Altman, chairman and CEO of ZeniMax Media. “Todd Howard and his team at Bethesda Game Studios have crafted a very special game. Anticipation for Skyrim has surpassed any game in our company’s history, and we are pleased that sales and reviews have reflected the quality and hours of amazing gameplay it provides.”

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim scored an impressive 9/10 in our review. If you’re after even more Skyrim content then go feast your eyes on the gorgeous Skyrim Concept Art Gallery.

Sales of approximately 3.5 million in 48 hours is huge, but three million units shy of Modern Warfare 3’s 6.5 million 24 hour figure for the UK and US.
