Blizzard has announced the next hero to enter the chaotic and colourful universe of Overwatch and it is an astrophysicist named Sigma

Voiced by Boris Hiestand, Sigma is a Dutch scientist who spent his career investigating the manipulative gravity-bending powers of black holes. Despite his brilliant intelligence and countless calculations, not everything went as expected in an experiment out in space, as shown in his origin story.

He now seems to split and struggle with two selves, not unlike a Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde situation. Blessed or cursed with a new harnessing of gravity, the last frame in the trailer below shows him holding rubble in mid-air, surrounded by Talon members Moira, Widowmaker, Reaper, Sombra and Doomfist.

Sigma’s arrival is a neatly timed one, just ahead of Stage 4 in the Overwatch League and just after the 2-2-2 role queue system active in the Public Test Region. There’s no information on when he will be live in-game for all players, but for now the Summer Games are in full swing to keep us all busy.

We don’t know what class the hero (or villain) is, and what his abilities are, yet. Curious fans have already cobbled together their own theories based on the teasers sent out earlier this week. There’s even evidence to show we’ve actually seen the space station Sigma became Sigma on in Lijiang Tower from Thiccwich on Reddit.
