Sega has released the opening animation for Sonic Mania, and all those memories of the Sonic we all used to love have come flooding back. The opening animation has been created by one of the artists who used to contribute to the Archie Comics Sonic line, Tyson Hesse, his unique style is all over this video. You should give it a watch, it’s grand.
Sonic Mania is a Sega published fan-led remix of the original Mega Drive Sonic games, created by Sega America in collaboration with Pagoda West Games, Christian Whitehead and Simon Thomley. Whitehead and Thomley previously worked on the popular unofficial remasters of Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Sonic CD.
There are two Sonic games due for release in 2017. Sonic Forces is the other title, and it’s  based on the modern day 3D Sonic platform adventure series, but it’s fair to say much of the anticipation is heavily favouring the retro-infused 2D Sonic Mania.
Sonic Mania is out on August 15 for PS4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and PC.
