Developed by Petroglyph (Star Wars: Empire at War) and published by SEGA, Universe at War: Earth Assault will enlist players in an epic struggle to prevent total alien domination of planet Earth.

The game is set in a near future which sees multiple enemy factions from across the galaxy come to Earth to wage war on an intergalactic scale. A key innovation is something called “Tactical Dynamics”, a system that allows players to retrain and customise their units in real time whilst in the middle of the action. Weaponry and defences can be modified to take advantage of the constantly shifting battlefield and fully customisable tech trees will enable players to amend the development of technologies in order to claim victory.

Petroglyph has a long and prestigious heritage within the RTS genre with key members’ part of the original Command and Conquer and Command and Conquer: Red Alert teams. Their determination to create the very best makes Universe at War: Earth Assault one of the most exciting games in development right now,” commented Matt Woodley, Creative Director SEGA Europe.

We’re also promised deformable terrain, deadly sci-fi weapons, alien powers and a persistent world, meaning players can revisit previous battlegrounds to find them in ruins just as they left them.

The game will also feature a new multiplayer offering, with numerous modes inspired by popular MMOs and other online games. Players will be able to earn achievements, rewards and medals in a persistent online campaign for ultimate faction supremacy across a virtual Earth.

Universe at War: Earth Assault is currently scheduled for release on the PC in the autumn.
