Microsoft has announced that pirate plunder-'em-up Sea of Thieves has hit five million players on PC and Xbox One.
The milestone coincides with the release of the new Cursed Sails update, which sees players clashing cannons with creepy skeleton ships. In addition, budding buccaneers can climb aboard the three-player Brigantine ship and take advantage of the new Alliances system.
Aside from reaching a new player milestone, Sea of Thieves has also notched up 300 million views on YouTube and broadcast more than 40 million hours of live content on Twitch to date.
Sea of Thieves was released in March for PC and Xbox One, with Microsoft roping in The Lord of the Rings actor Sean Astin to help flog the Rare-developed title. VideoGamer wasn't blown away by the swashbuckling adventurer at launch, although it wasn't a complete mess all the same.
The good news is that Rare will continue to pump out new content for Sea of Thieves for the rest of the year, including The Forsaken Shores in September.
