Microsoft has signed up The Lord of the Rings actor Sean Astin to front its latest Sea of Thieves marketing campaign, with The Goonies star featuring as an asthmatic pirate museum curator in a new trailer for the high-seas adventure game.

It’s not hard to see why Astin was considered a ‘perfect fit’ for the role, as he’s clearly having a blast hamming it up as the wannabe pirate who sought ‘fame, fortune, scurvy’ but was sadly held back by his asthma. The poor bloke even sheds a few tears lamenting what could have been.

Instead, he now spends his time showing folk around the Museum of More Pirate, brushing shoulders with various pirate-y things such as treasures, swords, paintings, and an actual Kraken in a tank. It’s wonderfully irreverent, which makes it a perfect fit for Rare’s humour-driven swashbuckling romp.

Sea of Thieves is due out today on PC and Xbox One.
