Warner Bros. Interactive and 5th Cell’s Scribblenauts generated quite an impressive pre-release following thanks to its novel gameplay, but when the game failed to make the September Top 10 sales chart in the US there was concern that all this hype hadn’t translated into game sales.

Thankfully for Warner and 5th Cell, this wasn’t the case. While not a smash hit, the DS puzzler did shift an impressive 194,000 units in approximately two weeks at retail, only bettered on the DS by Mario & Luigi: Inside Story and Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days.

Developer 5th Cell has said it’s done with handheld development for the time being, instead choosing to focus on a new Xbox LIVE Arcade game. Once worldwide sales are tallied, it could be difficult for all parties involved not to turn to a Scribblenauts sequel.
