It’s come to light that first person horror game Scorn has slipped from this year into a 2022 release window.

The news came by way of a press release for publisher Kepler Interactive’s new ‘Super Developer’ group as spotted by Eurogamer. The new group is made of several studios including Scorn developer Ebb Software, and the game itself is mentioned as a title on the slate.

With a world inspired by H.R. Giger, the game’s plot is deliberately being kept obtuse. It’s apparently designed around “being thrown into” an open-ended world with different regions. Each region is a maze-like structure, with its own themes, puzzles and characters.

It certainly sounds like you’ll have to pay attention too. There’s no cutscenes, instead you’ll have to keep watch for in-world storytelling to work out where you are and why you’re there. Interaction is “realistic” with items being picked up with your hands rather than floating in the air. You’ll also interact with machines and instruments by actually manipulating their controls, rather than menu-like interfaces. We can feel the ick-factor already.

Scorn first came on our radar all the way back in 2016 when it was announced for PC. It was then picked up and touted as coming to the Xbox Series X|S in May of last year, and you can check out 14 minutes of gameplay footage over here if you fancy.

All being well, Scorn will launch on Xbox Series X|S and PC sometime in 2022. It’ll also be available on launch via Xbox Game Pass.
