Deep Silver Volition has officially announced Agents of Mayhem, a brand new third-person open-world action IP heading to PS4, Xbox One and PC in 2017.

Set in a new “comic hero universe”, Agents of Mayhem puts players in control of an agent recruited to “thwart the destructive schemes of the evil supervillain organization L.E.G.I.O.N”, and is said to feature the developer’s trademark “over-the-top open-world gameplay”.

And while it isn’t a new Saints Row game, it is said to be a part of the Saints Row universe, sharing “certain story elements, symbolism, and design inspiration with the multi-million selling franchise”. The title is the “culmination of over a decade of open world experience and creativity,” Deep Silver says.

IGN reports that the game will be an “exclusively single-player” title, suggesting there won’t be any local or online multiplayer functionality.

Details on Amazon, meanwhile, make it sound like an open-world single-player hero shooter set in Seoul, South Korea:

  • Pick your squad of 3 highly skilled and iconic characters from a roster of 12 uniquely designed MAYHEM agents, brimming with personality
  • Play as any of the 3 Super Agents you select to take into battle, and swap between them on the fly for greater gameplay depth
  • The technologically advanced capital of South Korea with its Open World cityscape is your playground to take down LEGION
  • Discover secret research centers concealed throughout Seoul, hidden enemy lairs beneath the glossy surface of the city, and nefarious plots to unravel
  • Inspired by an assortment of past and present pop culture revolving around super heroes, comics and Saturday morning cartoons

The announcement follows a leak earlier today revealing that Volition’s game would be revealed in time for this year’s E3. The name Agents of Mayhem has long been rumoured, too, after a trademark for the game was registered by Deep Silver Volition’s owner Koch Media earlier this year.

For the first look check out the announcement trailer below and expect plenty more details to be revealed at E3.
