Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 developer Treyarch has confirmed a wealth of changes coming to its most underwhelming Zombies map.

Following the anticipated first-look at the return of round-based action at Call of Duty Next, fans were quick to heap praise on Terminus, a map set in an abandoned prison reflecting a dark, gritty experience. During the event, Treyarch also unveiled Liberty Falls which struggled to live up to the hype.

With fans unhappy with the aesthetic of the bland map, the developers have already revealed some of the changes that will feature in the finished version of the map when the game launches.

Liberty Falls looks better than ever

During the October 11 edition of the COD Pod, Treyarch creative director Miles Leslie revealed the version of Liberty Falls showcased at Call of Duty Next was an unfinished build.

“[The] Liberty Falls that everyone saw at Call of Duty Next was a work in progress,” reveals Leslie. “Visual tone and look and feel are a bit moodier than what people saw.”

In addition to making Liberty Falls look and feel more like a Black Ops Zombies battleground, Leslie also shared there were other innovations fans didn’t get to see. “There are atmospheric elements that people did not see at Next.”

It’s not just Liberty Falls that’s receiving a fresh coat of paint before Black Ops 6 drops. A CharlieINTEL X post reveals the Zombies head-up display (HUD) “is getting touched up” in order to create an optimised experience for everyone attempting to slay endless waves of the undead.

Treyarch is no stranger to acknowledging community feedback when it comes to its Call of Duty games. Considering Black Ops 6 isn’t even released yet, it’s great to see the developer address concerns raised by players.

Will the changes make a difference?

Leslie says “Liberty Falls is meant to be smaller, more casual compared to Terminus” which is positive for those looking for an alternative Zombie-slaying experience. However, Treyarch is the pioneer of the Zombies mode and with an extremely high bar already set by its predecessors, it will be interesting to see if it can raise it to new heights in Black Ops 6.

For now, Terminus will act as the main Black Ops 6 Zombies map while an improved Liberty Falls will offer something different. After launch, Treyarch will also introduce additional maps to the Zombies mode, boosting the amount of content fans can play.
