Rocksteady Games, developer of Batman: Arkham City, ‘looked at’ motion controls for the upcoming sequel, but eventually settled on a more traditional control scheme.

“We’re always interested in new technology,” Rocksteady Studios co-founder Sefton Hill told OXM.

Of course, neither Kinect nor PlayStation Move made it into the finished game, but Rocksteady had played around with other control schemes.

“We looked at different motion-control systems – but we wanted to focus on a more traditional control scheme,” Hill explained.

Today, the Batman: Arkham City pre-order costumes were revealed, with a particularly nifty Batman Beyond suit catching the eye of many fans.

The game is due out on Xbox 360, PlayStation and PC on October 28.

While there are some gadgetry gameplay mechanics that might lend themselves well to Kinect functionality, Arkham City simply isn’t a game that would benefit from the technology. Thank goodness Rocksteady didn’t go ahead with it.
